I took a Chi Walking workshop from Menaka Charan at Bellingham PT in Bellingham, WA. That was about 6 months after my second hip replacement surgery. I felt that the class really helped me with my awareness of my gait and posture. Since then I have had revision surgery on one of the hips. I have applied some of those same techniques as I again recover.

I have issues with my knees and have had repair surgery once. Pain is an ongoing, off and on thing. When I intentionally engage my core, walk with a shorter gait, wider stance, level pelvis, and head (all things chi walking) I am more relaxed, breathe deeper, and have less pain. I can walk further too.

Menaka is an awesome instructor. She is very knowledgeable about the Chi-walking process. I found that when I got into the right moves how fluid the whole process works and how much I was not in tune to my body (behorehand). Having a process to go up and down hills without being out of breath and pain free walking are well worth the time and money to learn the techniques. I look forward to continuing and learning this process.
